I invite information on one William Wadman Newell, b. Oct 20, 1801, and baptized Sept 4, 1802 (both in Trinity), son of Thomas Newell and Christian. An article in The Newfoundland Ancestor 15, 2 (pp 63-64) states that William Wadman [Newell] commanded Garland vessels between 1827 and 1833. I see records of 1830s christenings at Poole that appear to employ the mother’s maiden name as a son’s middle name, and one father is listed as William WadHAM Newell (perhaps an entirely different individual). I would also ask info on Wadman Point, noted as such on some early maps of the Bonavista Bay area: how did it come to be so-called?
