Looking for information with regards to the family of Andrew Thornhill from St. John’s. He was born in 1909 and died in 1941 during the war. His wife was Marion (nee Wells) Thornhill born 1910 (parents John & Matilda Thornhill). 1930 census states she had 3 children Richard, Mary & Alec. Another child was born in 1940 named Alice Viola, can’t find any information with regards to her being born but she married in St. John’s in 1966 then moved to Scotland. Any leads would be much appreciated as this is extremely important.

September 4, 2019 at 9:42 pm #5399Gail AllenParticipantElizabeth Nicol,
I am in touch with a lady in Scotland, Sharon Stodart, who has been searching for history on her mother, Alice Viola who was adopted out as a wee baby shortly after the untimely death of A Thornhill during WWII. She gave me permission to send you her contact information in the UK. She has done the DNA and has received results indicating that Marion and Andrew were her grandparents. Contact info is Sharonmc40@hotmail.co.ukThank you

I have a Great Uncle Andrew who died during ww2, and my Nan’s name was Alice Viola Thornhill (now Brown, but she has since passed away). The other names you mentioned also sounded like family members based on what I remember my Aunt and Mom told me. Except the details seemed a little off from what I was told during covid when I first saw this. I was supposed to reach out at the time, but with everything going on during covid, this slipped my mind until now. If your still interested and looking for info, please reply back, and I’ll see if I can setup a conversation with my mom and Aunt.
November 5, 2023 at 11:16 am #6729Gail AllenParticipant(Graham Rose) You would want to speak with Sharon Stodart, her email is Sharonmc40@hotmail.co.uk listed in the original conversation from 2019. As I recall we spent time on FB as well as long distance calls to and from Scotland were not possible at the time. I agreed to do some searching on this side of the pond and posted the 2019 note for her. Sharon’s mother was Viola, daughter of A Thornhill and had been adopted out at the time of her father’s death in WWII and was taken to Scotland. If you are not successful with the email I could see if I can find her on FB once again.
