My research has taken me as far back as Peter QUIGLEY who married Alice JACKMAN in 1840 on Bell Island.I have their marriage entry as well as those for their 5 children: Mary 1844,Thomas 1846,Catherine 1848, Peter 1852 and Alice 1856.
The Mannion Collection indicates that Peter was born in Bree Parish, Co. Wexford in 1815. However the only Peter Cogley I can find born in parish records in Co Wexford is born to Michael Cogley and Ann Fortune in Wexford town on Dec. 20, 1815.
During my search of Newfoiundland parish records I also came across a second Peter QUIGLEY who married Margaret FARDY on November 30, 1836 in St. Johns Basilica.
First marriage is 1836 to Margaret; second marriage is 1840 to Alice Jackman. Question: Is this one gentleman who married twice? or two different men? the 1836 marriage did not produce any children that I have been able to find…
ANY clarification very welcome indeed! Jill from Ontario
