Hello Surnames Forum,
Looking for guidance on where and how to obtain birth record proof for
Samuel Wilkins Kipping
reportedly born at Wards Harbour, Notre Dame Bay, 15 Dec. 1882.
The birth date could used could be in error – could be 15 Dec. 1887.
His war attestation record shows Albany, New York, USA as place of birth – which could be false.
Much more likely he was born Newfoundland.
Family Background.
Thomas Henry Kipping emmigrated to NL from England, or Jersey of Channel Islands earliest 1871 but it was likely closer to 1880.
He was a Methodist, and online church records show he witnessed 3 marriages in the church at Tilt Cove. He worked as a miner.
In 1881 he married Jessie Kipping (born Pilgrim) of Carbonear.
They had 9 children, all born in Tilt Cove, except the first, Samuel Wilkins, as follows.
1. **Samuel Wilkins born Wards Harbour, Notre Dame Bay 15 Dec 1882
2. *John Henry, born Tilt Cove, 27 July 1889

7. Arthur Cecil, born Tilt Cove, 7 Aug. 1900
8. Milton Harvey, born Tilt Cove, Oct. 1902
9. Jessie Francis, born Tilt Cove, 23 Apr. 1904
In 1907, the whole family moved to Glace Bay, Nova Scotia.
Note: * means served in WW1. ** means died overseas in WW1.
I would be happy to pay for a digital or paper copy record of the definitive place of birth for Samuel Wilkins Kipping.
Sincerely,
John Eric Kipping
