The image file below shows the Merchant family’s Census record for 1900 from ProQuest’s Heritage Quest database. See lines 44 – 48.

The image file below is a copy of a page from the US Census for Massachusetts for 1910 from ProQuest’s Heritage Quest on-line database.

Please note lines 4 through 12. Line 12 is interesting because Mildred Wade is listed.

Re: Corbett Merchant and Mary Burke Merchant.

Attached is a TIF file for the 1900 Federal Census.

The 1900 Census Record indicates that they came to the USA in1891. I can not find a Border Crossing record or a Passenger Manifest or a Marriage record for them in Massachusetts. I suspect that they were married in Newfoundland.

Because I am not sure that the PDF file was attached to the prior reply, I decided to attach a TIF version of the Census page.

The document that follows is a Heritage Quest PDF file copy of the Census Document for the Costello family in Boston in 1910.

As of this morning, I can not find a record from the 1920 or 1930 Censuses.

The Philip Maher and Johanna Franey marriage record from Americanancestors.org is the image for this document.

Most Massachusetts marriage records show a street address for the official who performed the marriage. I use to the address to link back to a rectory or parsonage etc. Unfortunately, lacking a street address, the Boston address for 1858 could be a number of parishes – many of them are now closed.

Recommend that you look at the Cape Breton Genealogy and History Association’s web site (cbgen.org). In the public area, Lark Szink and others have made an enormous Acadian database available to the public.

Their marriage record on the Americanancestors.org web site indicates that they were married in Boston on Christmas Day in 1858. I’ll be happy to send you the image of the record. Please contact me at joe-apg@norwoodlight.com.

Suggest that you register for a free account on Americanancestors.org home page. Massachusetts Vital Records (Births, Marriages and Deaths) are available up to 1914.

I have looked for US Census records for Philip and Johanna Maher for 1860, 1870 and 1880 without any luck. Did they go back to Newfoundland?
