MemberA little more digging and I did come across some more information. I did find the baptism record for Ignatius in Portugal cove RC records, the 6th child to his parents, in 1861. I also received info from someone on my grandfathers maternal side that Ignatius was placed in the care of the RC priest shortly after his birth as his mother had passed. Apparently there were rumors of infidelity (with a German man in the area??????) so Ignatius father (Manuel or Manville) gave him up to the RC church. I have not found any further information on Manuel or the older siblings of Ignatius in Portugal Cove. With some assistance, it is possible that my line of Tuckers are from a Thomas Tucker and Elizabeth Hanlon who were married in Basilica RC records around 1812. Perhaps Manuel/Manville is actually Michael Tucker (which seems likely since the first child of Manuel/Manville and Patience Tucker in Portugal Cove was a Michael). I am hoping to find out where my family line originated from. If anyone has any information, I would love to hear it.

MemberMy great grandfather was apparently placed in an orphanage sometime in the 1860’s to 1870’s in the Portugal Cove or Torbay area. The stories that were passed down in our family are that there was an old lady who was called “Granny” Walsh that had taken him in, as well as his sister. Apparently “Granny” Walsh took in all the orphaned children in the area. Does anyone have any further information about “Granny” Walsh?
